In April-May 2011, provided on-page search optimization and backlink building for Hotels operator at Mauritius, Oteli – a Russian localization of its English version.

Our specialist offered solutions and consultancy for site navigation, domain names (there were several in .ru zone) and metatags. Our SEO included keyword research and competitors overview. As we provided SEO for Yandex natural SERP, we carefully prepared the website for submission, monitored the indexing process with Yandex Webmaster Tools, offered improvements on the structure and navigation according to Yandex demands. Yandex needs only natural backlinks so we built about 80 quality backlinks and submitted 25% to We mostly used Russian social bookmark services, forums and boards.

Some social media marketing was also involved. , Twitter and accounts were set up.  If socializing continues it might bring new visitors.

Now 220 pages of the site have been indexed by Yandex, 31 were excluded for technical reasons, 184 are in the search.  210 backlinks from 56 websites have been indexed. Website is visible in Yandex upon low-frequency quieries, mostly names of Mauritius hotels +”маврикий”.

First ten quieries to show visible results from 9 to 16, May (last column shows position in Yandex Moscow SERP):

1 аэропорт на маврикии 4 9
2 маврикий honeymoon suite 2 9
3 one and only маврикий 2 9
4 отели маврикий 2 10
5 1 1
6 сюффрен 1 38
7 маврикий sofitel 1 8
8 aanari hotel & spa – *** 1 5
9 le cannonnier****отзывы 1 1
10 маврикий sofitel so, 1 5

Here is a search engine “pie” from Yandex.Metrika, demonstrating that still the main bulk of the visitors arrives from Google and it’s Russian affiliate whilst Yandex takes 21% of the pie. Otelimavrikiy. ru has not been yet geotargeted in Yandex (and it will pobably stay untargeted as it wants visitors  from all over Russia), so it is hard to say now whether Yandex will significantly improve it’s share very soon.
